We are kicking off Read Across America with an interactive tour of the United States. In our school library each grade level will experience a virtual tour of landmarks. historic sites, and National Parks.
The Joe Henderson school library is continuing our Birthday Book Club. Due to the rising publishing costs and limited budgets, the Birthday Book Club has been a successful way of expanding our library collection while providing quality reading material for our students.
Here is how it works:
1. This Program is voluntary.
2. If you choose to participate in this program, you or your child can choose a book from a selection of new books in our birthday book corner. The Library Technician will enter the title and price of the book on a form and send the form home with the student. If you decide to donate the book, send back the completed form with a check for the cost of the book. This book will be donated to the library in celebration of your child?s birthday.
3. The money generated from these donations will be used to replenish our supply of birthday books.
4. The book will be prepared for library use and your child will be the first student allowed to check out the book. A special book plate will be placed in the book. A birthday bookmark will be presented to your child during the class library visit closest to his/her birthday. A picture of your student will be put on our ?Birthday Book Bulletin Board?. At the end of the school year your child?s picture will be permanently placed in the birthday book.
5. Summer birthdays can be celebrated at the beginning or the end of the school year.
6. Books should be purchased 2-4 weeks before the birthday to allow the Library Technician to process the book.
