Our Student Council

The Joe Henderson Student Council is an after school group that is made up of student representatives from each class in grades 3-5. There are 2 councils chosen per year. One in the Fall, and another in the Spring. As members of the Student Council, students learn about setting an agenda, brainstorming ideas, problem-solving and voting, advertising, citizenship skills and teamwork. All of these important skills help representatives to become well-rounded school leaders.

Student Council is responsible for a variety of school events including planning Spirit Weeks, selling Candy Grams, sponsoring a holiday toy drive, and fundraising for Benicia’s annual Relay for Life event which benefits the American Cancer Society.

Student Council is a great opportunity to become more involved in your school. If you are interested in becoming a representative, talk to your teacher.

About the Advisors

     Miss Hughes
I enjoy participating in a lot of different school events, including being one of the Student Council advisors. Student Council has allowed me to get to know many different Joe Henderson students at all grade levels. Mr. Whitty and I enjoy working with our “StuCo” representatives and watching them grow as school leaders. I love showing school spirit, and it just so happens that our school colors are the same colors as my favorite baseball team! I am proud to be a Joe Henderson Hound!

     Mr. Whitty
I feel very lucky to be a student council advisor.  Our student representatives do a great job communicating important information and about events happening here at Joe Henderson Elementary.  Miss Hughes and I enjoy the enthusiasm and energy our council members bring to each meeting.  It’s important to give back to your school and being on student council allows our students to work on their speaking and leadership skills.  Thank you, StuCo members, we appreciate you!
